Forbes magazine has published its annual list of the 100 richest Spaniards for 2021, which includes five Mallorcan residents. Despite the severe effects of the economic crisis due to the halt of tourism in 2020 and the highly unpredictable first months of 2021 for tourism in Mallorca, the fortune of the Mallorcan entrepreneur with the smallest capital exceeds 300 million euros.

⑤ Carmen and Luis Riu Güell

In fifth place on the list of the world’s richest Majorcans are brother and sister Carmen and Luis Riu Güell. Carmen y Luis Riu Güell – Riu Hotels & Resorts
Carmen and Luis Riu Güell are co-owners of the Riu hotel group, inherited from their father, Luis Riu Beltran, who founded the hotel chain together with his father Joan Riu. They own 50 per cent of the hotel chain and among the other shareholders of Riu Hotels & Resorts is the German travel group TUI. Due to the complete shutdown of tourism last year they did not make it into the top 100 richest in Spain, however, this year they are back on the Forbes list thanks to the recovery of the sector and the opening of 17 hotels by the second half of 2021. At the end of the year, their fortunes are estimated at 300 million euros each.

④ Juan March Delgado

Juan March Delgado – Banca March Juan March Delgado is the eldest son of Juan March Cervera and grandson of the legendary Juan March Ordinas, founder of Banca March.
Together with his brother Carlos, he is the largest shareholder of this bank and of Alba Financial Corporation.
The management company Arta Capital sold 100 per cent of Alvinesa for about 380 million euros, 14 times its gross operating profit.
March’s fortune totals 750 million euros.

③ Carlos March Delgado

Carlos March Delgado – Corporación Financiera Alba Carlos March Delgado, with a capital of 850 million euros, is president of Corporación Financiera Alba and the largest part-owner of Banca March.
Together with his brother Juan, he is onward of his sisters Gloria and Leonor, who have a smaller stake.

② Gabriel Escarrer

Gabriel Escarrer – Melià Hotels International Gabriel Escarrer is the owner of Melià Hotels International, one of Spain’s famous listed and popular chains.
He is the heir, vice president and general manager of the company, son of founder Gabriel Escarrer Julia. The pandemic has severely affected Gabriel Escarrer’s hotel business and since 2017 he has lost 51% of his capitalisation. Nevertheless, it currently has a market value of around 1,300 million euros.
This year, Meliá sold eight hotels to an investment company for 204 million dollars. Its assets amount to 900 million euros.

① Miguel Fluxà Rosselló

Miguel Fluxà Rosselló – Iberostar Hotels Miguel Fluxà, with a capital of 1,200 million euros, is Mallorca’s richest businessman.
He is the CEO and majority shareholder of the Iberostar chain, one of Spain’s most powerful hotel groups with hundreds of hotels and resorts around the world.
The Fluxa family also owns Camper, founded by Llorens Fluxa Figuerola and Lottuss, founded by Antonio Fluxa Figuerola.
